With 5 year-old Jeremy and 2 year-old Emily at home, Steve's wife Michelle
has retired from the Pool, so Steve is picking on his own.

I frankly always thought she was the brains of the outfit, but hey... *cough*

'Sonny Columbo' was the stage name of a dear friend of the Auggie Family.

Gordon Blickstead was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. As the son of the city's Fire Chief, he enjoyed a well-to-do upbringing.

As a 20-something bon vivant, he began a career crooning jazz standards in smokey Montreal nightclubs.

Under the name 'Sonny Columbo,' he outshone fellow crooner Tony Bennett when they appeared together on a 1957 CBC-TV special.

Sonny's style of music fell out of favor and Gordon 'retired' to the beaches of Florida, living the playboy lifestyle until music called him again.

He became a radio D.J. and met Auggie in 1980. They enjoyed a long, close friendship until Gordon's death from cancer in 2002.

Gordon most enjoyed a cold beer, a warm barstool and the Football Pool at the pub.

He was no more successful at making picks than 'Sonny Columbo' was at stardom, but he would chuckle knowing that Sonny's name lives on through our Pool award!
